During my internships in Taiwan and during my volunteer work in Nepal, I experienced a completely different acupuncture setting than what is customary in the Netherlands. People sit in the same room, which looks like a waiting room, on chairs next to each other with the sleeves and trouser rolled up. The acupuncturist comes by, feels the pulse, looks at the tongue while the patient briefly tells his or her story. Then needles are placed at different acupuncture points and the acupuncturist goes on to the next patient next until everyone in the room has had their turn. The support for health takes place on the spot in a group, in a kind of community, and is often immediately noticeable. This setting is effective, time and costs saving both for the patient and for health insurance.
My waiting room, which is very similar to a living room, is suitable for such a setting and has space to treat 4 to 5 people at the same time.
What can you expect ?
If you come for a first time, you will receive a comprehensive intake and treatment. If you opt for community acupuncture, a follow-up meeting will take place in a separate room where the progress of the treatments will be discussed in private. Then you go back to sit in the waiting room and get acupuncture for your complaints.
You sit next to people you have taken with you yourself or invited you or alongside unknown people who, like you, also receive an acupuncture treatment. I only use acupuncture points on the arms, hands, legs, feet and head, for which you only need to roll up sleeves and trouser legs. I ask € 40 per person per treatment, the average reimbursement for supplementary insurance.
Of course, as you are used to, an acupuncture session in a room for yourself is still available.
